NETWORKING
We provide a network package for connecting the DVR to your existing network and Internet. This allows the DVR video to be viewed from any location in the world with an Internet computer. You simply connect to your location through your IP address to access the DVR.
Everyone with an Internet connection regardless of DSL, Satellite or Cable has an IP address. This IP address is a number that represents your location from the Internet. This number looks like 123.456.789.101, the number is assigned by your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and can change weekly, monthly or sometimes quite longer. This means that after some time your ISP will change the number and you will loose connection with the DVR. You may simply call your ISP to ask them about your new IP address. In addition, there are website's that will show you the new IP address, however, you need to access these website's from the DVR location. We recommend buying an IP address that will never change, which is called a static IP address. Note, your ISP may charge you an additional monthly fee.
The package consists of setting the DVRs IP address, netmask, gateway and port information. Then we run a network wire (category 5) from the DVR to your existing router. We can then log into your router to forward the video information to the Internet through the open port matched from the DVR.
In order to install the network package we need to access your router which is password protected. If your router was installed by someone besides yourself you will need to contact that person to get the username and password. If you installed the router yourself and did not change the username or password we can usually use the default username and password. Note: having the user manual on hand can save time.
There are usually two ways to view the DVR through the network. Web based and software based. Web based is a Internet location that you use to view the DVR without having to download and install the software. This web based option allows for viewing your DVR through a public or other such location where you can not use the software. This option has a limitation of viewing only and usually can not control the DVR such as rewinding to a particular time or date. The software based option allows for full control and customization of your DVR, but you will need to install software on the computer you wish to use it on.
